Should you include a career objective on your resume?
A “career objective“ is one step you should definitely skip on your resume. Most career consultants believe an objective means nothing to hiring managers. The only objective they are interested in is finding the right person to meet their company needs.
Although including a career objective was common practice five plus years ago, it has more recently been replaced with a “career summary“. This is a short list of accomplishments that highlights your career achievements.
The difference between a career “objective” and “summary” is the summary allows you to focus on who you are rather than what your current goals are.
The best use of this space is to briefly mention your career highlights, past roles and strongest skills.
